The broodstock are the parent fish which provide the eggs required to produce new generations. The fertilised eggs take 90 days to hatch when placed in an incubator kept at 5 - 6°C
The newly hatched juveniles are transferred to freshwater tanks where they grow and develop further into the parr stage. They are fed pellets produced of the finest sustainable ingredients. When they reach about 40-50 gr. they are vaccinated to ensure protection towards diseases. Before the fish is transferred to saltwater they go through an adaption process called smoltification that prepares them for life in saltwater. During this process the fish gets a silvery colour and a more streamlined shape.
When the fish has been smoltified and are ready for saltwater we transfer them to our post-smolt site where they keep growing in saltwater tanks on land. This is done to have the fish as big as possible before they are transferred to the sea. Icelandic fjords have cold and very clean water, and we strive to give our fish the best start for a healthy life at sea.
When the fish are transferred to sea we use well boats that ensure safe travel. In the sea the fish is kept in cages made of nets with fresh clear water flowing through continuously. This ensures an optimal environment for the fish to grow and thrive in.
Harvest is done when the fish reach a size between 4-7 kg, and is done throughout the year. Harvest is done at our harvest site, and we ensure that the harvest process is as gentle and humane as possible for the fish. When a site has been harvested and is empty the site is rested for 2-5 months before we introduce a new generation of fish.
